E-PASSPORTS ON THE WAY
Smartmatic
The e-passports are becoming an increasing tendency throughout the world; studies have shown that within the next five years about 90% of passports will contain smart chips with biometric information of the passport holders. Also, within the next three years it has been predicted that the transition to this modality will be completed and that e-passports will not only contain fingerprint information but also iris scans and other biometric information additional to the one that is already included in the chips of passports that adopt this system.
Smart card IC chips trend began in 2007 and it seems to be inevitable due to the fact that lots of countries have summed up to this massive wave of electronic passports. Actually, reports carried out by IMS and other researches show that the tendency will remain in time because more and more countries will continue joining this system for the sake of security, saving time and systematization.
