A research on IMS released recently showed that the number of payment and banking smart cards in Brazil is expected to grow and reach 450 million within 5 years. Analysts state that the growing use of smart cards for these purposes might be due to the fact that Brazil is hosting the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 because this is thought to cause a significant impact on the demand of them.

According to the previously mentioned report Brazil is one of the largest consumers of payment and banking cards in South America. Latest GDP forecasts for Brazil are very positive perhaps more than developed countries with annual GDP growth of about 3.8-4.1% in the next four years. This report also examines the possibility that payment and banking cards market have in other countries to cover debit, credit cards, ATM, e-purse, contactless and dual interface.
